Eintracht Frankfurt v Sporting Lisbon

where to watch

BT Sports 1, 5:45 p.m.

Best bet

Eintracht Frankfurt
2pts 11-10 Betfred, Hills

Match preview

Europa League winners Eintracht Frankfurt came back to earth with a 6-1 loss to Bayern Munich in their Bundesliga opener, but Oliver Glasner’s side have stabilized the ship and they should start their successful Champions League campaign.

They haven’t lost since that humiliation and a 4-0 win over RB Leipzig would have been just the ticket as they line up against Sporting, who got off to a rocky start of their own.

The Portuguese side cruised to a 2-0 win at Estoril at the weekend but, while a loss to Porto might not have come as a big surprise, a 2-0 loss to Chaves certainly was.

Frankfurt also filled their boots with a 4-3 victory at Werder Bremen and, now that they are back in motion, they should claim a first group victory.

Atletico Madrid v Porto

where to watch

BT Sports 7 p.m., 8 p.m.

Best bet

Under 1.5 goals
1pt 11-5 bet365

Match preview

These teams played to a goalless draw when they met in the Spanish capital in the group stage last season and it wouldn’t be surprising if it was a similar story on Wednesday.

Diego Simeone’s Atletico are renowned for their defensive strength and it’s worth noting that 13 of their last 16 Champions League games have featured less than three goals.

It might be worth thinking there’s even less in this clash, especially as Porto, who won the Portuguese title by six points last season, only scored a total of four goals in their six 2021-22 Champions League games.

Atleti have scored just four goals in their last eight Champions League home games, so the precedents are there for this one to be a slow burner.

Barcelona v Viktoria Plzen

where to watch

BT Sports 6 p.m., 8 p.m.

Best bet

R Lewandowski will score two or more goals
2pts 7-5 bet365

Match preview

Barcelona are seen as the biggest certainty of Wednesday’s Champions League coupon and they should have little problem securing an opening victory against Czech hopefuls Viktoria Plzen.

The off-field problems at Camp Nou have been in the headlines recently but Xavi’s side will be delighted with the start of the Spanish campaign.

Barca have scored 11 goals in their last three games, including a 3-0 win at Sevilla at the weekend, and they could kick things up a notch against a side that have had to fight their way through three qualifying rounds to reach this stage.

Robert Lewandowski has settled in well since leaving Bayern Munich and the competition’s third top scorer should be able to make hay against opponents who look out of depth.

Club Brugge – Bayer Leverkusen

where to watch

BT Sports 8 p.m., 8 p.m.

Best bet

Club Brugge draw without betting
1pt 7-5 bet365

Match Preview

This game presents a classic Champions League dilemma as a team struggling in a tough domestic league come up against a team flying at a perceived lower level.

Bayer Leverkusen have lost four of their five Bundesliga games this season and, while they relish the favoritism for their trip to Belgium to take on Club Brugge, it’s tempting to take a chance on the home side to triumph.

The difference in league quality may mean it would be prudent to go the draw route, but Brugge should be confident after winning four in a row.

Spanish striker Ferran Jutgla leads with five goals and the Belgian side can see this as a great opportunity to get off to a good start.

Inter v Bayern Munich

where to watch

BT Sport 5, 8 p.m.

Best bet

Bayern Munich winner and over 2.5 goals
1pt 6-4 coral

Match preview

All the ingredients are in place for a breathtaking match between two teams who have won 13 times in this competition between them.

Bayern have lost just one of their last 18 Champions League group games and that’s bad news for Inter, who have triumphed in just three of their last 12 home games in the Champions League. the competition.

The Germans look like a good bet to win, but it’s worth associating this match selection with more than three goals in the competition.

Bayern have scored 20 goals in their five Bundesliga appearances this season, while Inter’s five league games have featured at least three goals, so both defenses could enjoy a busy night at the San Siro.
