Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp
Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson is confident Jurgen Klopp will give the club enough notice if he walks away from the Anfield hotseat, but admits he is unsure who could fill the German’s boots .
The TV pundit told freesupertips.co.uk he has full confidence in the club owners to make the right decision when the time comes, but he is full of praise for how the former manager Dortmund relied on club culture.
Lawrenson said: “I don’t think there is anyone like Jurgen Klopp, he is completely different.
“I go to Melwood a lot, so I get to talk to him and there’s this aura around him and he understood Liverpool straight away.
“One of the reasons he signed was because he got the Bill Shankly thing, it’s still there and he took that culture from the start.
“I don’t necessarily think he’ll see his contract end. I just think he’ll wake up one day and say ‘it’s time for me to go’.
“People say he’s going to move on and lead Germany but he doesn’t want that, he likes the daily contact with the players.
“It’s difficult, but who knows what will happen after him?
“If he walks away he will give the club enough notice because the club have been fantastic with him and he has been fantastic with them.”
The former centre-back, who won five league titles, a European Cup, three League Cups and an FA Cup in seven years at Anfield, believes the club have also done a good business signing Luis Diaz from Port.
He said: “I saw him play twice against Liverpool in the Champions League, and he was a real handful, especially in the game at Anfield.
“Porto were really unlucky not to score in the first 30 minutes and he dominated every move they had.
“I think he can play in all three attacking positions, which is a bonus, but the fact is there is now competition for places.”
