Premier League Best Bet
Brighton v Burnley 3 p.m. Saturday
Brighton boss Graham Potter spoke about Jakub Moder’s goal threat ahead of the Seagulls’ trip to Manchester United on Tuesday and the Poland midfielder almost lived up to the hype.
Potter was asked about Moder’s long wait for a first Premier League goal following last weekend’s 2-0 win at Watford, where the 22-year-old netted three of his side’s 11 attempts on goal.
He forced David de Gea into an early save at Old Trafford and the in-form United keeper made another brilliant save to deny a hard-hitting header from the attacking midfielder.
Moder’s fortunes in front of goal all but changed when his second-half effort returned over the bar, but he’s a tempting bet to score first against Burnley on Saturday.
Brighton have every chance of beating the latter club so Moder, who clinched against Cardiff in the EFL Cup and West Brom in the FA Cup this season, should have a better chance of breaking their duck in the Premier League.
EFL best bet
Sunderland v MK Dons 3 p.m. Saturday
Rotherham and Wigan, the top two in League One, meet on Friday night and there is another big clash on Saturday when fourth-placed Sunderland, now managed by Alex Neil, host third-placed MK Dons.
The Black Cats were held 1-1 at AFC Wimbledon in Neil’s first game in charge last Saturday when they scored with their only shot on target and had seven players booked.
Sunderland are the clear favorites to beat MK Dons, but the visitors are fully capable of spoiling Neil’s debut at the Stadium of Light, having won seven of their last ten league away matches.
Milton Keynes men have lost just once in 11 outings since Christmas – a run that includes victories at Lincoln, Portsmouth, Burton and Wycombe – and they limited in-form Ipswich to two shots on target in last weekend’s 0-0 draw.
The Tractor Boys were grateful for excellent saves from goalkeeper Christian Walton and Sunderland are worth the game against visitors who have conceded just five goals in ten league appearances in 2022.
European best bet
Bayern Munich vs Greuther Furth
Sky Sports Football, 2:30 p.m. Sunday
It’s top versus bottom in the Bundesliga on Sunday, but Bayern Munich won’t take anything for granted after losing 4-2 to outsiders Bochum last weekend.
Greuther Furth is an even bigger prize to win at the Allianz Arena, but he’s able to take advantage of any complacency from a Bayern defense that has kept just one clean sheet in five league games since the winter break .
Bayern needed a late equalizer to avoid a surprise loss to Salzburg in the Champions League round of 16 on Wednesday and both sides have scored in 15 of their 22 league games, including a 3-1 win against Furth in the reverse game in September.
The result was part of a rough start for the promoted club, which took just one point from their opening 15 matches up to and including a 7-1 rout by Bayer Leverkusen.
Since then, however, Furth have lost just twice in eight games, scoring in their last four – 2-1 home wins over Mainz and Hertha Berlin, a 2-2 draw at Arminia Bielefeld and a 4- 1 at Wolfsburg – and they are worth supporting to get on the scoresheet against the champions.
The Seagulls’ seven-game unbeaten streak came to an end at Old Trafford on Tuesday, but they have won three of their four games against sides from the last three and should be too sharp for Burnley.
After a string of narrow defeats in the Championship, last club Barnsley stopped the rot with a 1-0 win at home to QPR last weekend and they can avoid defeat at Coventry, who won only just one of their last six home games.
Brighton 7-10, Bolt 5-6, Exeter 8-11, RB Leipzig 6-10. The £1 accumulator nets £8.61 with BoyleSports.
Both teams score
Games at Southampton 7-10, Charlton 4-5, Borussia Dortmund 8-15. The £1 treble wins £4.68 with Hills.
