Overview

The Scottish season kicks off with the League Cup group stage and following the St Johnstone Cup double last season, optimism will be renewed beyond Glasgow’s two big sides.

Kilmarnock will play in the Championship football this season after a disastrous campaign that ended in a loss to Dundee in the relegation playoffs. Tommy Wright took over midway through the season and he hasn’t been able to galvanize a downcast and timid team.

However, Killie has been busy this summer and has beefed up his squad with many new additions. Goalkeeper Sam Walker has joined the club from Reading, while Euan Murray and Scott Robinson are decent additions at this level.

Wright will likely have his troops well trained defensively and he will no doubt be looking for a positive start after last season’s disappointment. There isn’t a huge prize on offer this weekend, given Kilmarnock is heading to East Kilbride, side fifth, but they should be way too strong.

Hearts have prepared some interesting signings for their return to the Premiership and they should have no problem at Peterhead.

Raith had a great Championship campaign last season and they have way too much firepower for Cowdenbeath. A triple of these three sides makes for a tasty 13-10.
